Overview
This is intended to be a comprehensive list of political topics that are of national interest for the US.
Purpose
This list is intended to help people focus their time and attention on the topics that are important to them and thereby avoid distractions. To help them avoid the temptation to spend time and energy on topics that are not important to them. This focus on what is important will help people to achieve their goals, whatever they may be.
Usage
It is suggested that people start by picking their top 5 of importance to them based on a ‘forced raking’ of the topics on this list. The exercise of selecting your personal list of ‘Top 5’ items will itself be valuable for many people as it makes you think about things and think about trade-offs. The precise number of items is not important so anywhere between 3 and 10 items on ‘your list’ is good. I’ll use the term ‘Top 5 List’ to refer to a short list of the most important issues/political topics for someone, even if that person does not have precisely 5 items.
Why This Exercise Is
Important
Every day the news will come out with something ‘new’ that will be a potential distraction to you. This is bad.
For example, the news might come out with a story on ‘Reforming the Supreme Court’ on one day. And the next day, old people in McDonalds across the country will be spending an hour over breakfast discussing it. Some people will be ‘for it’ and some people will be ‘against it’. Whichever side you are on, you are LOSING and ‘The Bad People’ are winning because you got distracted. Unless, that is, ‘Reforming the Supreme Court’ was already on your ‘Top 5’ list.
And this is happening every day with the news cycle. A new distraction a day. To the point where it is a week later and you don’t even remember that people were wasting an hour the prior week on supreme court stuff, because now they are talking about something else that the News has put out to distract you.
Note: It is ok to change your ‘Top 5’ list from time to time. For example, you want to make ‘Reforming the Supreme Court’ number 5 on your ‘Top 5’ list and push your prior ‘Number 5’ down a notch, that is OK. It is your list, after all. Just keep in mind that if you change your ‘Top 5’ list every day based on whatever the News pushes out that day as being that day’s distraction, then that defeats the purpose of this exercise. That is called ‘Being on the Treadmill’. Try to avoid ‘Being on the Treadmill’ by focusing on whatever shiny object the News has in store for you on the current date. Instead, try to keep focus on the items that are important to you.
In summary: The purpose of creating your own personal ‘Top 5 Political Topics List’ is to help you keep your focus on the items that are important to you.
Motto to Remember
“The Bad People are trying to Distract you and Divide You”.
Remember that motto and it will help you to avoid distractions like the kind that the news media likes to put out each day. Those distractions can be:
a) Political Topics that aren’t important to you.
b) Something that a Politician said that may have offended some people or ‘mock offended’ some people, i.e., they pretend to take offense for power/political gain.
Who are the ‘Bad People’? This author is encouraging you to decide that for yourself. That could be The Democrats. That could be The Republicans. That could be ‘The Uniparty’ that both the Democrat and Republicans participate in. That could be someone else. It is not this author’s intention to tell you who ‘The Bad People’ are. You decide for yourself. But I’ll tell you, for my money… those that are trying to distract us and divide us... those are the ‘Bad People’.
And what are they, the Bad People, trying to Distract you from? Why, the bad things THEY are doing, of course. That could be corruption of the ordinary type like taking bribes or insider trading or something more serious like accumulating absolute power and trying to take over the world. Whatever it is that ‘The Bad People’, YOUR ‘Bad People’ are doing, they are most happy when you aren’t paying attention to it. So don’t make it so easy for them by being so easily distracted.
And why do they, the ‘Bad People’ want to Divide you? Because the vast majority of the American People are basically good and if they were united, they would easily defeat the ‘Bad People’ who are, thankfully, small in number. On the other hand, if the Good American People are fighting amongst themselves, then they are not ‘fighting’ the ‘Bad Guys’ and that makes the ‘Bad Guys’ happy. Don’t make them happy by being divided from friends, family, neighbors and loved ones.
Of course, feel free to go to the movies, watch sports, go to the beach, read books and generally live your life. While those things can be considered ‘Distractions’ from achieving a goal of taking on and defeating the ‘Bad People’, those aren’t the kind of ‘Distractions’ that I am talking about here. Those things are living your life and enjoying it. Make sure to life your life and make sure to enjoy it.
I am talking about ‘Distractions’ that are either manufactured or that are natural and then used/weaponized by ‘The Bad People’ for the purpose of Distracting the Good People away from focusing on ‘The Bad Things that Bad People Do’. And, again, this author is leaving it to you, gentle reader, to decide what those ‘Bad Things’ are for yourself and who those ‘Bad People’ are.
Note: A ‘Distraction’ could be a lie or it could be the truth. While it is true that Bad People will tell lies, it is also true that Good People will lie sometimes, if only because they don’t want to reveal their plans to the Bad People.
Note: If you don’t like the term ‘Bad People’, you might use the term ‘The Enemy’.
Source of ‘The List’
The list started as a brain dump of whatever topics I could think of. Then I checked it against (a) the Democrat Party Platform for 2024 and (b) the Republican Party Platform for 2024 to help ensure that I didn’t miss anything. This list is a work in progress and will be updated as I think of new topics to add.
Numbing of Items in the List
Each item in the list is numbered. The items in the list themselves are not in any particular order and so the numbering in arbitrary. The numbers themselves though will remain constant and unchanging after September 30, 2024. Before that, the list should be considered a ‘Beta Version’ and subject to change.
Convention Used
Each item on the list would typically be understood as if it had ‘For or Against’ following the item. For example, for Item ‘School Choice’, this is understood to be one item for both ‘People who Want More School Choice and/or Vouchers’ and also ‘People who want less School Choice/more forced Public Schools’. When you, gentle reader, make your own ‘Top 5’ list, you can be expected to indicate which direction you feel on a particular issue, as/if appropriate.
Example of a ‘Top 5’ List
Here is a ‘Top 5’ list from RFK Jr. as per X (formerly Twitter) from August 20, 2024.
He is consistently on message with regard to the issues that are important to him. And he’ll specifically avoid talking about or getting distracted by issues he feels are not important or not as important. For example, he has mentioned that the ‘Culture Wars’ are not as important to him as the issues/political topics expressed below.
His ‘top issues’ are listed as being:
1) Reversing the chronic disease epidemic
2) ending the war machine
3) cleaning corporate influence out of the government
4) and toxic pollution out of the environment
5) protecting freedom of speech
6) ending the politicization of enforcement agencies
Categories
In order to make The List more manageable, items are grouped into one of the below categories.
Note that the category something is in is somewhat subjective. For example, AI (Artificial Intelligence) is in the ‘National Security’ category, but it could have alternately gone into the ‘Economic’ category. The idea of using Categories is just supposed to be helpful and you don’t need to worry about the category an item is in when you create your ‘Top 5 Issues’ list. In other words, I just picked the category I thought was the best choice and it is OK if you think an item best fits in another category.

It is not the intention of this author to list all of the sub-items on each and every topic. Though for some topics, there may be some sub-items. It is a judgement call for each item as to what would be the most helpful to the reader.
As an example, here is a top ‘Guns/Second Amendment’ and some possible sub topics. This is just for illustrative purposes on what we will not be doing in general.
Guns/Second Amendment

1) Intending to be unbiased and actually being unbiased are two different things. It is understood that some readers will find some bias even if unintended. That could be in:
a) The wording of the items. E.g., ‘abortion’ versus ‘baby killing’ versus ‘elective early termination of pregnancy’ might all be different words to describe the same thing and some readers might view some terms as being innately more favorable to one point of view than another.
i.e., the ‘pro’ group for any item might have one preferred term and the ‘con’ group for the same item might have a different preferred term.
Since this is just an intended-to-be-helpful list of topics to help you come up with your own personal ‘top 5’ list or ‘top 10’ list, feel free to use whatever terminology you like for each topic when you make your own list. In fact, you are encouraged to do so. So if you want to call something ‘ending baby killing’ or instead call it ‘a woman’s right to choose early termination of pregnancy’, that is entirely up to you.
2) For this list, I listed only items Racism Against Black, Whites and Asians. hat is intentional as, while the purpose of this list is intended to be mostly ‘comprehensive’ it is also the intention that this list is to be used as a tool to help the Reader come up with their own list.
So if the Reader has a Race or Religion that they feel is important to them and isn’t mentioned here, that should be OK and not remotely prevent them with them creating their own list with whatever races they like. In other words, to have this list be ‘fit for purpose’ for what it is designed to do, I don’t need to list each and every race and religion in the world, because I can assume that anyone reading this is smart and can figure that part out on their own.
3) Yes, it is possible for someone to believe that (a) anti-black racism exists in the US and so is there for an issue/problem and also (b) that fake anti-black racism, i.e., people/News Media creating division between blacks and whites and faking hate crimes exists and is an even bigger issue and more prevalent in the US. Though, again, this author is leaving to you, gentle reader, to determine what items exists as problems/issues and where they rank in terms of the things you can about and if they make your ‘Top 5’
4) This list is intended to be of National interest for the people in the US. Clearly an Earth-killer asteroid hitting the Earth is of global interest. So what we mean in this context is, ‘Should the US Government Spend more US Tax Dollars on Funding Asteroid Detection/Prevention Programs’. And that turns it from being a ‘global item’ to a US-focused one
